PIEVE DE' PITTI
back to map ^
On the southern boundary of the municipality of Terricciola, in the heart of the upper Era Valley, is Pieve De’ Pitti.
The villa, built in the early eighteenth century on the remains of the ancient Castle Pava, overlooks vineyards and olive groves, which descend from the hill to the plain. The clayey soils, crammed with fossils, and the sea winds give special flavour to the grapes.
The vineyards are as Tuscan as you can get: Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Trebbiano and Vermentino, which produce full-bodied red wine and white wine full of personality.
An extravirgin olive oil, like just squeezed olives, complete our range of produce. The main facility with the park, the private chapel and the appendages offer an ideal setting for ceremonies and events and exclusive hospitality.

ENRICA PIZZICORI

Born in Prato in 1976.
She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara and at the Academy of Fine Arts of Salamanca (S).
She has exhibited her works in many collective exhibitions and art symposiums.
Since 2000 she has specialised in children’s illustrations.
For the publishing house Eldec, Rome, she has published the collection of short stories, "100 fiabe da salvare". She has worked for the publishing house "Edizioni Clandestine" for which she illustrated a cover and in 2002 she translated and illustrated traditional Spanish stories.
"La regina delle api" [Our lady of the bees] (wooden beehive)
This project takes inspiration from the fairy tale "Nostra Signora delle Api", specially written by the artist for the occasion.
The beehive has been painted white and thus turned into a blank sheet.
The tale is entirely hand-written on every face of the beehive houses.
Just underneath the edge of the roof of the beehive, some gold leaf has been applied to resemble honey gushing out of the beehive.
The installation houses a terracotta sculpture, portraying "Our lady of the bees".

CATERINA SBRANA

Born in Pisa in 1977.
After attending classical studies, she enrolled in the painting course held at the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara by Omar Galliani.
Her work is based on the suggestive force of natural, basic materials, which she uses in original, elegant ways.
"Tempio di cera" [Wax temple] (wooden beehive)
The ancient Greeks thought bees were the messengers of the Muses, and their privileged bond with the mysteries of the world and poetry is deeply rooted in our culture.
As soon as I saw the beehive, which looks so similar to a temple, I felt the urge to bring it to the Helicon, the mount of the Muses, to bring it back home, to create a bizarre cross between an everyday item which is so factually poetic and a mythic place of a beauty that tends to perfection which is so loftily, distantly poetic.
As the legend goes, the temple of Delphi was built with beeswax and bee wings.

FATTORIA DI FIBBIANO
back to map ^
Owned until the mid-twentieth century by the noble Gherardi Del Testa Barasaglia, today Fattoria Fibbiano is a modern, 75-hectare farm which has preserved its pristine charm through a careful restoration of its buildings.
The 10 hectares’ vineyards are only grown with native vines, such as Sangiovese, Malvasia, Colorino and Colombana. Finally, not to take the wine away from its history, we let it age in oak casks in large and perfectly-preserved Etruscan tombs.

WALTER SARDI

Born in 1958 in Rosignano Solvay (LI).
After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, since 1990 he has been exhibiting his works in collective and personal exhibitions in Italy and abroad.
He has exhibited on several occasions at Studio Gennai in Pisa.

One personal exhibition and installations around the city for "Progetto Contemporaneamente 2002-2003" in Pontedera (PI).
"Senza Titolo" [Untitled] (iron and glass)
The leading thread of this installation is the relation of the item recovered from the past, such as the hoop of the cask, the cart or the demijohn, fitted in a sculptural context, ranging between architecture and design.

PODERE LA CHIESA
back to map ^
After buying the estate in 1988, the new owners have taken to vine growing and wine making.
The new vines have been planted in 1997 with quality in mind.
In 1999, Attilio Pagli, an extraordinary winemaking expert, started working for the farm. The cultivars are Sangiovese, canaiolo, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, malvasia nera for red wine, and colombana, trebbiano, malvasia bianca for white wine.
Sangiovese, Cabernet sauvignon and Merlot are the vines of the flagship wine, "Sabiniano di Casanova".
Sangiovese and canaiolo produce "le redole di Casanova".

She attended the "Anatole France" high school in Villeneuve.
She travelled a lot for work and study: from England to Australia, then to Italy where he is currently living and where he studied Visual Arts, specialising in painting.
"Abante" (acrylic in action on PVC)
"Moving with a dancing step” portrays the celebration of the grape harvest as a feast of life, recalling the rites celebrated in our countryside.
In man’s dreams, the matter turns into freedom in an endless becoming, in the attempt to improve oneself".

AZIENDA AGRICOLA GIMONDA

The farm produces wines that are synonym with the territory and come from native cultivars (Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino and Colombana) aged 30 to 40 years.
The vineyards, covering about 3 hectares, are all located at "Poggio ai Grilli".
The vines are grown in a "Guyot" layout with small crops.
Controlledtemperature fermentations usually last 14 days; they are carried out in concrete and steel, and the "Vicerè" is then left to age at least 12 months in oak barriques.

Currently they live and work at Viggiu’ (VA).
"Guardiani" [The guardians] (coloured wood)
The installation for the vineyard aspires to put in some symbolic presences that act as the protectors or guardians of the earth, the vine and the grapes.
The work consists of 8 or more wooden totems coloured with red acrylic paint.
Each feature is planted in the soil to a depth of about 40 cm and connected to the old post by steel cables.
The totems face each other, to create a sort of passageway.

AZIENDA AGRICOLA CASTELVECCHIO
back to map ^
The farm has been up and running since 1990, when the daughter replaced the mother at the helm of the family estate, which is sown with crops, trees and olive groves.
In 2002 she gave a new lease of life to the one that had always been the main, traditional crop of the farm and of the local region (Terricciola): vine growing.
Approximately 27,000 trees have been planted out and a new cellar has begun to be built.
All the family have joined this venture, it is a dream come true and the materialisation of a passion.
The farm covers about 20 hectares, 6 of which are grown with vines.
The density of the crop is 5,343 trees per hectare in a "guyot" layout.
The first harvest will be in 2006.

ELISABETTA CATAMO

Born in Rome where she lives and work.
Since 1978 she has been teaching Decoration at the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence.
She began working as an artist in the mid-Seventies.
From painting, she moved to photography, then crossed over into the three-dimensional reality with her installations and constructions.
Mysterious spaces of the mind, subtly thrown, inviting to meditation.
She keeps experimenting with different techniques.
The recent winner of an award at the Contemporary Art Biennale at Cairo, she has taken part in collective exhibitions in Italy and abroad and held personal exhibitions in Rome, Milan, Turin, Trieste, Sorrento, Bari, London, Tokyo, Amsterdam, Paris.
"Tracce" [Traces] (decoration in the tasting room)
Everything happens within a confi ned space: the tasting room.
The silent traces of the leaves change with the blowing of the wind, creating a rhythm of lights and shadows, bumps and voids.
Words, colour, signs hand down the memory of an ancient tradition that has remained unchanged.
The inner space built in the mind interacts with the outer landscape.
It is an urge that hits all senses and is gentle on the eyes.

AZIENDA AGRICOLA VALLORSI
back to map ^
The business was founded in 1966 by Mario Bibbiani with the aid of his sons Sergio and Stefano, two expert managers who have added personality and quality to their wine-making business.
It is impressive to see such modern technology and equipment being used on ancient Tuscan vines to produce such excellent wines.
Tender loving care during the process, combined with the typical mild climate of the Tuscan hills, the excellent location and the use of organic fertilisers in as many as 17 hectares of vineyards, contribute to the natural fl avour of these wines, which are produced according to ancient Tuscan traditions.
The certainty of doing things right is evident in the pleasure of the home-run business and in the traditional contentedness of Mario, Sergio and Stefano.

GABRIELE MALLEGNI

Born in Pisa in 1977.
He attended the state art school in Lucca.
He enrolled in the sculpture course held by professor Piergiorgio Balocchi at the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara.
His favourite material is iron, with which he makes sketchy, minimal insects, a cross between science and fi ction.
For years he has been working at physiognomic reconstructions on behalf of the Anthropology Department of the University of Pisa.
"Portale" [Portal] (iron and resin)
Within the frame made of raw iron, a strong, primary material associated with the earth, I cut out the typical oval of the cement vats, giving a minimal, sketchy twist to an ancient, ubiquitous shape.
In the oval, instead of wine, grape stalks, corks and other wine-related items fl oat in resin.
At night, the oval lights up, playing with the transparencies of the resin.
Finally, the metal inlet, a unique feature that I wanted to add to the installation, emphasises the connection with the local history and traditions.

PODERE PANTA REI
back to map ^
Podere Panta Rei is a winemaking farm founded in 2001 for a small production of topquality wine.
The aim is to exalt the quality of typical local vines, such as sangiovese, ciliegiolo and colorino.
The grapes are picked only from selected plants, marked a few days before the harvest, and then de-stalked by hand.
For both “Le Costie” and “Marvia”, alcoholic fermentation is naturally boosted by ‘native yeasts’, since we are convinced this makes our wines different and unique.

FAUSTO SALVI

Born in Brescia in 1965. After studying at the State art school Del Garda, he discovered the art of potterymaking in 1988 in Faenza, where he settled and attended the vocational training course and the postgraduate two-year course in majolica at Istituto Ballardini per la Ceramica.
He worked for several factories in Faenza, but he immediately set up a studio in every house he lived in.
Everything changed in 1998, when he moved first to Buenos Aires, then to Brescia for four years, in a studio in Corso Matteotti.
Then again in 2002 he moved to Milan, in the fl at-with-studio in Via Venini.
In 2004 a great change led him to give up the idea of setting up a permanent studio and began to work in temporary studios, such as private studios, schools and universities, moving all the time to and from Italy, London, New York and other European cities.
He did and does exhibit in private galleries and competitions in Italy, France, the UK, the United States, Korea, Estonia.
"Log-in" (ceramic bas-relief)
The subject of dialogue and personal relations is, along with other subjects, a focal point in my work and in the experiences I am living, especially in the last few years. This particular work, "log-in", which can be defi ned as ‘modern’ to recall a digital, computer language to which I entrust a large part of my contacts, since I am always moving around, is born, as a type of item, in response to the client’s specifi cations and has become the beginning of a new outline of the work I am pursuing: the bas-relief and the high-relief.
Dialogue, at every level, is essential; it is something you cannot do without.
I do not believe in seclusion as a source of inspiration, except for very short periods.
Often, dialogue turns into symbols, parodies, captions, interpretations, metaphors. But it is still dialogue.
The technical side to the work, as usual, is not interesting for me. Speaking of the way one has made it is too ‘ceramic’.
Very uninteresting.

TENUTA PODERNOVO
back to map ^
Podernovo is the Lunelli’s first vineyard outside the region Trentino.
The holding is composed of over 80 hectares of land, concentrating in 40 hectares of vineyards with over 50% Sangiovese and the rest Cabernet, Merlot and other local and non-local cultivars on an experimental basis.
The vines are grown on espaliers, with over 6,000 plants per hectare designed for a harvest of 50 hl wine per hectare.
The aim is to produce excellent red wines, based on a philosophy that pursues two goals: to celebrate the native vines and to produce new red wines which can make the most of the natural bent of the territory and celebrate the natural combination of two heroic crops, different by traditional and origin, such as the culture of Trentino and that of Tuscany.
The farm includes a magnifi cent group of farmhouses in the most traditional Tuscan style and offers the very best standard of hospitality with a modern cellar inspired by the Tuscan tradition.

FABRIZIO LORENZANI

Born in Carrara in 1963.
In 1981 he graduated in marble from I.P.S.I.A. "P.Tacca" in Carrara, where he has been teaching sculpture since 1989.
In 1982, he graduated in art from the art school of Carrara.
In 1988 he graduated in sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara.
He has taken part in international exhibitions and symposiums of sculpture since 1985.
He works and lives in Carrara.
"Gioco di equilibri" [Acrobatics] ((marble and stone)
It is a sort of vertical bridge where the two stone features are ascending and descending.
The work means to suggest images, feelings.
The ochre feature brings in itself light to the earth, from where another feature rises high up.
They are held together by a dazzle of light (steel key), as from the meeting of light (the sun) and the earth comes a plant (the vineyard).
The sculpture is also, or above all, a plastic feature, a construction where everything is supported by an acrobatics of masses, of voids, volumes and lines, an architectural construction that recalls the traditions and the history of a land, a tower, a guardian, the custodian of the house.

AZIENDA AGRICOLA BELLAGOTTI CAV. GUGLIELMO
back to map ^
Born in the Sixties, the Bellagotti farm boasts a great production, which had its peak in the Eighties.
Back then, 15 hectares were grown with vines, then since 1995 large areas have been grown with cereals and olive trees.
Today as many as 50 hectares of land are grown, about 6.5 hectares are vineyards, about 1.5 hectares are olive groves, and the rest is grown with cereals.
The mild climate and the sandy soil containing fossils are ideal to produce excellent red and white wines that can be tasted in our farm, by appointment.

LUCIANA ANDREANI

Born in 1973 in Massa.
She worked as an artist and a graphic artist in Milan and Massa and specialises in installations, photography and videos.
She graduated in painting in 2001 at the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara.
She is currently attending the fi nal year of the postgraduate course in Visual Arts, Contemporary Arts Department, Academy of Fine Arts of Brera.
She has worked as a stage designer for some local companies of Massa and with Teatro della Limonaia of Sesto Fiorentino.
"Cantico delle taverne" [The song of caverns] (wall installation: steel, glass, coloured plaster)
The project is the fruit of a refl ection on the match between wine and music and the cultural bonds that come out of such relationship.
Music, literature, drama, painting have always been challenged by the subject of wine, either from a negative or positive allegorical standpoint.
This reading aims at looking at the playful, cheerful relationship between the two, where wine, like God’s rain, drips down in transparent pearls like drops on the chords of a violin, the epitome of music, to reach the earth and fertilise it with its intoxicating "potentia".
A student’s song that was very popular in XI-century inns went like this:

Ave color vini clari,
ave sapor sine pari
tua nos inebriari, digneris potentia.

O quam felix creatura
quam produxit vitis pura
omni mensa fit secura, in tua presentia.

A perfect combination of the intoxicating pleasure of wine, this song, of which only the words have been left, aptly expresses the essence of such marriage.

TENUTA DI BURCHINO
back to map ^
It is one of the historical farms of Terricciola. Since the early twentieth century, it has been owned by Castellani, one of the leading wine makers in Italy.
Since 1995, the old sangiovese and ciliegiolo vines have been supplemented by new vines, and the company has ventured on organic farming.
A new cellar has been built to process the grapes from about one hundred hectares grown on the local hills.
The wines mostly made of native grapes are aged in casks and barriques in the ancient underground cellar until bottled.
The wines are then exported to 43 countries around the world.

CASANOVA DELLA SPINETTA
back to map ^
Our newest project lies in Tuscany in the village of Terricciola between Pisa and Volterra.
Here we make our Sezzana, a 95% Sangiovese from Casciana Terme, as Sangiovese to us, is the ambassador of the Tuscan terrain.
The remaining 5% are Colorino, another Tuscan indigenous grape variety, that gives a dark ruby red color to the wine. From the 65 hectare of vineyards we also make another 95% Sangiovese single vineyard wine, called Sassontino.
These Sangiovese grapes grow near Casanova, Terriciola.
The first vintage of Sassontino is 2003 and will be released in 2006. In 2004 for the first time, we also harvested our third Sangiovese, made from young vines (4-5 years), called Il Nero di Casanova, this more basic wine was released for the first time in the Fall of 2005.
